Air Tahiti welcomes TERAIEFA, a new ATR 72-600 in Tuamotu colors

Air Tahiti's 11th ATR 72-600 aircraft, registered F-OPFN, made its inaugural flight on June 25th to Rangiroa, where it was welcomed with a blessing ceremony.

Its christened name, TERAIEFA, means "the skies that appear or are born" in reo mihiroa, one of the Paumotu dialects. A pari pari Fenua (speech) and traditional songs were specifically composed for this aircraft, the ATR TERAIEFA, symbolizing Air Tahiti's deep commitment to the culture of the archipelagos and the communities it serves.

This new aircraft features a unique livery, a tribute to Polynesian culture and, in particular, to the Tuamotu archipelago. Inspired by traditional Tuamotu tattoos, this special livery brings together powerful symbols, such as the checkerboard pattern, a tattoo observed on the Paumotu people, especially from the western Tuamotu, from Fakarava to Aratika and all the way to Raraka. This checkerboard motif symbolizes the marae (sacred place) and the ocean. The standing figures with raised arms are inspired by Paiore's drawing and his representation of the Paumotu world. They illustrate the harmony between humans and nature. Finally, the sun and bird motifs represent the sky and the concept of vast horizons that Air Tahiti connects.

TERAIEFA embodies both Air Tahiti's ambition to maintain the vital link between the islands of French Polynesia and the airline's pride in sharing and promoting the richness and beauty of Polynesian culture with every flight.

The arrival of this new aircraft is also an opportunity to reaffirm Air Tahiti's commitment, for over 65 years, to serving the populations across the archipelagos and, with all its teams, contributing to the economic, social, and cultural development of the islands. Air Tahiti is Te natiraa o te mau motu, this vital, historic link between the people of Tahiti and the islands, as well as with its visitors.

We’re excited to welcome you aboard TERAIEFA soon !
