Air Tahiti is committed to preserving the environment and biodiversity through various sustainable initiatives. The company is also involved in the struggle against global warming, through its support for associations working in this field.

  Reducing its environmental footprint

Air Tahiti’s mission of connecting the islands is achieved in a sustainable way for both current and future generations, through daily actions such as :

  • Operating aircraft that consume 40% less CO2 than equivalent jets or aircraft.
  • The use of electric cars in Tahiti and her islands. In Tahiti, 100% of Air Tahiti vehicles are electric.
  • Reducing paper waste, introducing electronic on-board documentation, launching a staff awareness campaign and installing an eco-digester.
  • Reducing electricity consumption by using solar energy (solar panels).

Preserving the biodiversity of Tahiti and her islands

Our islands and atolls are known for their exceptional biodiversity. However, most of the endemic species, which exist in limited geographical areas and in limited numbers, are threatened.

Air Tahiti is part of the Environmental Direction’s “invasive species management” program. Air Tahiti is working in collaboration with the Environmental Direction to obtain the “Company protecting biodiversity” certification. To achieve this, we are working on 2 levels :

1. In our storage and technical areas
In order to prevent the intrusion of animal species into the on-board supplies we carry and into our aircraft, Air Tahiti implements preventive and management measures to prevent the spread of species such as fire ants and rodents.

2. In the handling of cargo parcels
In order to prevent the introduction of plants, animals, plant products or any other goods that could represent phytosanitary or zoo-sanitary risks outer the islands, Air Tahiti works in partnership with the French Polynesia Biosafety Department, making available our facilities for processing and inspecting our freight packages.

Protecting the environment and preserving biodiversity

Air Tahiti is also a partner of associations working to protect the environment, preserve natural areas and endemic species. The company is a long-standing partner of such organizations as Manu SOP (local representative of BirdLife International), Mata Tohora (for marine mammals), Mokarran Protection Society (for the Great Hammerhead Shark), Te Ora Naho - FAPE (Federation of Environmental Protection Associations), AOA Polynesian forest (pioneer in acting for restoring the forests of Tahiti and her islands), VIKURA (Vik'Ura, representative of the 'Ura - Lori de Kuhl, endemic parakeet of the Austral archipelago) and many others.
