Taking care of your child
Before departure
We advise you to arrive at the airport at least one hour and a half before your flight's scheduled departure time and to check in before the final check-in time.
Online and self-service check-in are not available for UMs.
An identity document showing the age of your child will be requested at check-in and boarding.
An Air Tahiti attendant will ask you to complete a form with your name and contact telephone numbers and those of the person meeting your child at his destination.
The person meeting your child at the airport must be the person nominated on the form and will be required to show formal photographic identification. If the person collecting your child at the airport is not the person named on the form or if he does not present photo ID, the child cannot be handed over to him. This procedure was put in place to guarantee your child's safety.
Once the check-in formalities have been completed, your child will be accompanied to the aircraft by an Air Tahiti attendant, who will hand him over to the cabin crew before the other passengers arrive.
Please check with our staff that your child's flight has actually departed before leaving the airport. That way, in the event that the flight is cancelled, your child will be able to leave with you.
On board
Your child will be welcome on board by the steward or stewardess who will be looking after him during the flight. He will be given a seat close to the cabin crew and offered a glass of fruit juice or water.
Below is some advice to ensure your child has a pleasant, enjoyable journey:
- A biscuit, sweet or chewing gum will help him swallow and prevent earache caused by pressure changes during take-off and landing.
- Check your child does not have a blocked nose. If he does, seek your doctor's advice.
- Make sure he has something to drink. The pressurised air in the cabin is dry and tends to dehydrate.
- It can also be cold on the plane. Remember to dress your child in warm, comfortable clothes.
- Pack his important documents, such as his health card, and any medication in his hand baggage.
- Finally, give him his comforter and something fun to do on board (favourite toy, colouring book, etc.). The more your child is surrounded by familiar things he likes, the more comfortable he will feel on board.
Upon arrival at the destination airport
Your child will be the first to disembark from the aircraft.
An Air Tahiti agent will accompany him to the person you have nominated to greet him at the airport.
Our attendant will check his identity document and will only hand over the child if the last and first name are identical to those given on the form at check-in.
