Manihi

Looking for a flight to Manihi? Discover "Pearls Island": it was on Manihi atoll that the adventure of pearl farming began, with Polynesia's first pearl farm in 1968. Already found naturally, the pinctada margaritifera oyster was cultivated to produce dark-coloured pearls with golden, iridescent, bluish or pinkish reflections, known as the Tahitian black pearl. This has become a key economic activity in the Tuamotus, alongside fishing and copra production.

Manihi is also renowned for its exceptional seabed, where you can go angling, and for its "motu" (islets) surrounded by a crystal-clear sea that invites you to swim, snorkel or just relax.

The locals live in Turipaoa, near the only pass of the same name in the south-west of the island. A number of guesthouses welcome travellers in a relaxed atmosphere and idyllic setting.
